Six Back to School Outfits Approved by Your Favorite Literary Characters
As September nears, we’re all heading back to school, which means we all need a killer first-day outfit. Why not take inspiration from your favorite literary characters? We’ve done all the work and modernized some of the most stylish ladies of literature. Check them out below!
Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice
This dress is perfect for Lizzie, who may just be our favorite heroine of all time. The delicate florals paired with edgier elements like the black and the studded shoes are a perfect representation of Lizzie’s personality- she’s kind, yet tough. Caring, yet stubborn, and so on. To recreate this look, pair a floral dress with edgier elements like combat boots or a leather jacket.
Nancy Drew from the Nancy Drew series
I grew up reading Nancy Drew and always appreciating her detective skills and her stylish outfits on the front cover. I wanted to create a modern adaptation of Nancy’s style, so I chose a plaid skirt, similar to the ones we’ve seen Nancy wear, and oxfords for an old-school vibe. To recreate this look, pair a classic school girl skirt with a plain t-shirt or crop top and a classic loafer.
Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby
It’s almost impossible to capture the sheer glamour of Daisy Buchanan in a daytime outfit. While I do feel that Daisy would be wearing a lot more sequins, this drop waist dress and sparkly accessories manage to capture some of her elegance. To recreate this look, pair a drop waist or sheath dress with a sparkly necklace or headband.
Lucy Pevensie from The Chronicles of Narnia
For Lucy, I wanted to keep to a neutral color palette to focus on the natural elements of Narnia. To recreate this look, pick clothing in shades of khaki, forest green, and burgundy to capture the spirit of Narnia and look prepared for fall.
Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables
I was inspired by this cover of Anne of Green Gables for this outfit. I really wanted to incorporate some element of straw, so I decided on one of the straw bags that have been everywhere this summer. To recreate this look, pick crisp clothing in shades of blue- a shirtdress or a button-down perhaps- and pair them with boots and straw accessories.
Jo March from Little Women
For Jo, I wanted to get across an adventurous and bookish vibe. This plaid dress is scholarly, without being too classicly feminine- just like Jo! To recreate this look, pair either a plaid dress or shirt with boots and an infinity scarf and don’t forget your favorite book!
